“I can’t make money on the Internet” - Discuss

January 18th, 2009

This is what you will think if you surround yourself with conventional wisdom. That is, it is impossible to change your life from one of mediocrity to one of abundance. What the hell does that mean? It means that society will try to define you into a standard role: An employee, low-class, wage slave, whatever term is used today to describe those that travel through life performing the daily grind. But what if this wasn’t the case? What if you could change things? What if you COULD make money on the Internet and fire your boss??? (Please feel free at this point to add your own ‘What If’ questions)…

What if by reading this post you could turn your future around and take control of your life?

If you’ve got this far, then maybe, just maybe, you have what it takes to make this change. Believe me, you are more unique than you realise! Many people will have read the opening and assumed that this couldn’t happen to them. Well fine, this post is not for those people anyway. You have to want to change things to make them happen. You see there is a great big world out there just waiting for you if you want to embrace it enough.

I remember when I decided to quit work and change my life. It was after a bit of a health scare (which was nothing as it turned out) but it was enough to get me to start asking myself ‘What If’ questions. And that was the turning point for me. That was the day I decided that I could make a change, and that I would make it work. It is astounding how much of a mental shift this is for someone who has been an employee for 15 years. I felt liberated before I even started my first day on my own.

My big decision was that I was going to embrace the power of the Internet and make a million within a week. Actually, this is nothing like what I first thought. All I was initially concerned with was being able to meet my bills without relying on a regular wage. My thoughts now however are much closer to how I will make my first million. I believe that it is simply a case of establishing what you want, and putting a plan in place, regardless of how unrealistic it may appear at first, and sticking to that plan.

What would you do if money was no object? Would you go on that holiday of a lifetime? Well what if your current idea of a holiday of a lifetime became the norm for you? It really can happen, and you can do it. Do yourself a favour and go down to the travel agents and get all the brochures you would usually avoid (money is no object now is it?) and decide where you are going to go. Price it up. Forget what discounts you can get. You don’t need them. Just make that plan, work out exactly what it will cost, and set a plan to make that money. Do this little step today. In fact, you should really stop reading this now and do it now. This article will still be here when you get back to see what to do next.

(I’ll assume at this point that you have now got back from the travel agents.)

You’re back! Where did you decide to go?

The fantastic part about choosing to make money on the Internet is that your market (i.e. customers) is HUGE. I really mean enormous. You can’t possibly imagine how big it is. To get yourself into the right frame of mind, try to imagine a stadium that would be big enough to fit more than a billion people, and then try to imagine that you are on the stage with a microphone and that everyone can hear you. You probably get the idea. You have that microphone and you can reach those people, all of them. It is now up to you to work out how to get them to listen.

This post is not about what opportunity you should look at to start your empire. Just do a search for ‘Business Opportunity’, ‘Work at Home Jobs’ or ‘Internet Marketing’ and you will be literally inundated with offers of one sort or another. Choose carefully, and follow your intuition, but do start somewhere.

The biggest obstacle is always yourself in these decisions. The most likely ways to fail on the Internet are either to not start (nothing too obvious there) or to give up. Well giving up is going to make you fail pretty easily too. Much better would be to ask yourself why something is not working and take steps to change those things. If your commute to work every day was changed and it now took you an extra hour to get to work, would you stick it out every day or try to find a better way round the problem? You see, you already do this in your everyday life, so why not embrace this ability and put it to good use.

There are so many benefits to being your own boss. The biggest two being more money (usually but not always) and more time. You get to run your life on your terms. You work when you want. You choose exactly the activities that will bring you closer to your goal. Does this sound like a life you would warm to? It does to me…
